LEHIGHTON, PA (January 31, 2024) – Maria Montero, a candidate for Congress in the
7th Congressional District, will hold a press conference tomorrow to take Representative
Susan Wild to task for her recent insulting statements about her constituents in Carbon
County. The event will occur outside Wild’s Congressional office in Lehighton, Carbon
County on Thursday, February 1 at 12 noon.
In a recent Zoom call with Democrats, Wild said she “was dismayed when I got that
[Carbon County] as part of my district” because residents had “drank the Trump Kool-
Aid.” This latest insult follows similar remarks made by Wild in 2022 when she said
Carbon County residents needed to be “schooled” over their support of Trump, inferring
that their political views were a result of them being uneducated.
“As a native of Carbon County, I am appalled that Susan Wild would make such
insulting comments about the people she was elected to represent in Congress,” said
Montero. “These types of statements attacking and belittling people of different beliefs
are symptomatic of the growing political divide in our country. Rather than attempt to
build bridges and find common ground, Wild is contributing to the political polarization in
our country.”
