Education
Being a single mom wasn’t always easy, however she always made time to give back—coaching all of her son’s youth sports (sans football) and was active in her parish and community. Maria was a co-founder of the Lehigh Valley‘s Power of Women and her dedication to strengthening women’s civic, economic, and social leadership led to an executive appointment as the Commonwealth’s Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. Thereafter, Maria led the Governor’s Latino Commission advocating for Latino small business owners and promoting educational excellence in the community.
Women’s sports played an instrumental part of her life competing in varsity sports throughout high school and college where her tenacity, dedicated work ethic, and grit shone brightly. Maria had her only child, a son, while in college and with the support of her family was able to earn her degree. Maria’s family made the impossible possible, for which she is eternally grateful.
“When you educate a woman, you educate a family”. Rising through poverty, Maria’s education at Our Lady of the Valley, Marian Catholic, Saint Joseph’s University, and Widener School of Law have proven the great equalizer.
