A Republican woman who lives in Easton announced Monday she’s running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Maria Montero hopes to unseat Democrat Susan Wild in the 7th District, which represents the Lehigh Valley.
“Never in my lifetime have I been more concerned about the direction of our country,” Montero said in a news release.
Her news release describes her as a Latina, a daughter of an immigrant and granddaughter of Carbon County Irish coal miners.
She had her only child, a son, while attending St. Joseph’s University and persevered to earn her degree and eventually graduate from law school, her news release says.
She’s the former executive director of both the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and the Pennsylvania Latino Commission, her release says. She’s also on the board of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation.
She said her campaign relies on four key cornerstones: safety, accountability, family finances and education (SAFE). You can learn more about Montero on her campaign website.
Pennsylvania State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie announced last week he’s also running for Congress. The Republican candidate won’t run for re-election to the state House, where he represents the 187th District. Mackenzie, 40, lives in Lower Macungie Township.
Republican Kevin Dellicker has also announced he’s running for Congress in the 7th District. Dellicker is the founder and owner of a technology and cybersecurity firm based in the Lehigh Valley. He lives in Heidelberg Township.
Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District includes Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties, and part of Monroe County.
