ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Penn State law student running for Congress in the Lehigh Valley suspended his campaign on Friday.

Allen Issa, a former Republican congressional aide and 2024 J.D. candidate at Penn State, is out of the race for a House seat in Pennsylvania's 7th congressional district. He says he is suspending his campaign to focus on finishing his legal education.

Issa, 26, said he decided to endorse Maria Montero, the Pennsylvania Convention Center's current director of public affairs, after meeting with all remaining GOP candidates. He will be joining Montero's campaign as a policy advisor and assist in fundraising efforts.

"It is clear to me that Maria Montero is the best equipped candidate not only to defeat Susan Wild, but also to serve the people of the district in Congress," Issa said in a press release. "Her vision for our district and her unwavering dedication to our shared values stand out."

The suspension of Issa's campaign leaves three Republican challengers to Wild in the race: Montero, state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) and business owner Kevin Dellicker.
