Maria is a first-generation American on her father’s side and the great-granddaughter of a Carbon County coal miner—what an honor it is to come from a humble upbringing and have the opportunity to run for U.S. Congress. Maria’s first home was Summit Hill in Carbon County and grew up between there and Allentown in Lehigh County. She is bilingual (English & Spanish) and a native of this District in which 55,000 Spanish speakers live.
The American Dream
As a Lehigh Valley practicing attorney, she understands PA-7’s complex landscape and knows what will bring us together: Restoring the American Dream. Growing up, she always believed America was full of opportunities. Through faith, hard work, and education, she and her family broke through the poverty cycle. However, the future of the American Dream is quickly vanishing. Now is the time to right the ship!
Growing up with the promise of the American Dream, Maria and her family made tremendous sacrifices to break the cycle of poverty, and they persevered. After finishing Marian Catholic High School, she went on to graduate from Saint Joseph’s University and Widener School of Law. As a proud mom, practicing attorney, and former Executive Director of both the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and the Pennsylvania Latino Commission, she has dedicated her life to serving others.
My Faith
As a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church and an active Easton City Republican Committeewoman, faith is her foundation, and she is thankful for the freedom to be a civically engaged American. She believes in the sanctity of life and lives what she preaches. When Maria was 18 years old, she became pregnant and chose life. It was not easy to be a young mom, but that decision has blessed her.
Power Of Women Networking
While living in Allentown, she co-founded the Lehigh Valley’s Power of Women Networking Initiative, served on the Hispanic Center of the Lehigh Valley board of directors, and was a member of the Allentown Puerto Rican Parade Committee. She is also a former member of the DeSales University Board of Trustees and the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Currently, she serves on the board of her alma mater, Marian Catholic, and the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation.
Service is at the core of who Maria is, and by running for Congress, she brings her diverse skill sets to represent her home district and our Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She hopes to earn your support and become PA-7’s next U.S. Congresswoman.
